Aufgrund seiner geographischen Lage hat Pomoravlje (das Gebiet der Morava-Konfluenz)
eine bedeutende Rolle in der Verbreitung der neolithischen Kulturen in Südost-Europa
gespielt. Um diese kulturellen Prozesse näher zu beleuchten, wurde 2002
eine Arbeitsgruppe ins Leben gerufen, in deren Rahmen das bislang nicht publizierte Material
klassifiziert und der wissenschaftlichen Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt werden sollte. Seit 2003 hat das Projekt einen internationalen Charakter, da seitdem auch Archäologen aller Mitgliedsstaaten der CEI (Central European Initiative) beteiligt sind, und die CEI das Projekt finanziell unterstützt. Zunächst ist das Projekt auf 6 Jahre angelegt. Resultate der ersten zwei Jahre werden in diesem ersten Band der Reihe vorgestellt. |

"The region of the Middle Morava Valley (Central Pomoravlje) is located on the natural
communication route of the Balkan Peninsula. From here, the valleys of the South Morava
and the Vardar rivers provide an easy access to all regions of the Aegean basin, the upper
reaches of the South (Juzna) Morava and the White (Beli) Drim allow passage to the eastern coast
the Adriatic Sea and the valley of the Struma River links the region with Thrace in Bulgaria
and Asia Minor. In the North, the valley of the Great (Velika) Morava reaches the fringes of
the Panonian Plain, from where the routes to Central and Western Europe are open along the
valleys of the Sava, the Tisa and the Danube. It is absolutely certain that the Middle Morava
Valley, with its about a hundered Neolithic settlements, played one of the crucial roles in the
process of neolithization of the Central Balkans and the South-East Europe"
